Smile Makeover 101

Your Guide to a Radiant New Smile

Are you dreaming of a new look? A digitally designed smile makeover might be the perfect solution for you! This revolutionary approach in cosmetic dentistry combines advanced technology with expert care to give you the smile of your dreams. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you understand the process and what to expect.

Step 1: Consultation and Smile Design

Your journey begins with a comprehensive exam: During this initial visit, we'll discuss your goals, concerns, and expectations. We'll also get some images to get an overall view of your dental structure and collect some data regarding your teeth, gums, and overall oral health.

Next, comes the exciting part: the smile design. Using state-of-the-art digital technology, we'll create a 3D model of your new smile. This virtual design in partnership with Invisalign Smile Architect technology allows you to see the potential results before any treatment begins.

Step 2: Treatment Planning

After we get all the data and images, we'll develop a personalized treatment plan. This plan outlines the specific procedures needed to achieve your desired look. Depending on your unique needs, treatments may include:

- Orthodontics: Aligners or braces to straighten crooked teeth.

- Teeth Whitening: To brighten your smile by several shades.

- Veneers or Crowns: Porcelain shells that cover the surfaces of teeth, correcting imperfections and replacing missing enamel.

- Bonding: A tooth-colored filling material applied to repair minor chips and cracks.

We'll come up with a timeline that works for you.

Step 3: The Makeover Process

With the plan in place, it's time to start transforming your smile! The timeline for your makeover will vary based on the treatments involved. Here’s a general idea of what to expect:

- Tooth Alignment: We'll calculate how long it will take to align your teeth using Invisalign's 3D technology. Mild rotations and tilting movements can take 4-9 months, more extensive movements will take a bit longer to refine. Once your alignment plan is finalized, we'll review a video of transformation (your ClinCheck video) together and answer any questions you have before getting started.

- Tooth Shaping: Some treatments, like veneers and crowns, require reshaping the teeth and taking new scans. We call this "prepping the teeth".

- Gum Shaping: Dream smiles aren't completely symmetrical, but they are in harmony with your natural facial structure. The gum tissue that frames your smile can be adjusted to match the look you're going for with a procedure called a "gingivectomy" or "crown lengthening". This is for when you feel like your teeth look smaller than your ideal goal smile, or when we measure the teeth and they are tooth short to support a porcelain restoration.

- Temporary Solutions: Esthetic temporaries can be made ready before your tooth shaping appointment so you can take some selfies with your trial smile in place while waiting for your finals.

- Final Placement: Once your custom restorations are ready, we'll carefully place them, making sure they fit perfectly and look natural.

Throughout the process, we'll keep you comfortable and informed about each step.

Step 4: Follow-Up and Maintenance

After your smile makeover is complete, you'll have follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments. Maintaining your new smile requires good oral hygiene practices, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups.

A final fitting for an occlusal guard or a set of retainers is a very important part of your maintenance, and will be part of your initial treatment planning session!
